About the Film Series

Mission Statement

In honor of his wife Simma, in 2022 Michael Stein created the Simma and Michael Stein Des Moines Jewish Film Series.  The primary goal is to build community through the screening and discussion of Jewish life in partnership with local organizations and cinemas. 

Films We Feature

The Simma and Michael Stein Des Moines Jewish Film Series screens films in each of the following categories, recognizing that some film may be represented in multiple categories. 

  • Jewish Comedy

  • Israel with a pluralistic view 

  • Holocaust/WWII Related Stories

  • Jewish History

  • Jewish Life in the Diaspora
